What is the Omnipod 5 system?

The Omnipod 5 system is an automated insulin delivery system designed to help people with type 1 diabetes manage their blood sugar levels. It is a tubeless system that has 3 parts: the Omnipod 5 mobile app, Pod, and a compatible continuous glucose monitor.

The pod and continuous glucose monitor are in constant communication to make automatic insulin adjustments based on trending glucose levels. Users are able to control the pump and alter programmable settings with the Omnipod 5 App on a compatible smartphone device.

Omnipod 5 App for iPhone received FDA clearance in 2023

The Omnipod 5 App for iPhone received FDA clearance on October 23, 2023. This clearance makes Insulet the first and only company to offer a tubeless automated insulin delivery system with full control from a compatible Android and iOS smartphone.

The app is expected to become available in the App Store sometime in 2024, but the exact date has not been released yet.

The Omnipod 5 app for iPhone is expected to be commercially available in the App Store in 2024. While an exact date has yet to be announced, Insulet states it will be sometime this year.
