The Dexcom G7 direct-to-watch feature allows users to receive their glucose readings directly on their smartwatch, eliminating the need to always have a smartphone on hand. The direct-to-watch feature makes monitoring glucose levels throughout the day more discreet and convenient.

The Direct-to-Watch feature for Dexcom G7 offers several significant benefits for individuals with diabetes including:

Convenient Access

View real-time glucose readings directly on their smartwatch without needing to pull out your smartphone. This is particularly useful during physical activities, at work, or in social settings where carrying a smartphone may be impractical or inconvenient.

Real-time Data and Alerts

Receive real-time data of glucose readings, trends and alerts right on your wrist even when your smartphone isn’t nearby. This allows for quick and discreet monitoring of glucose levels and ability to make timely decisions related to diabetes management. 

Additional Glucose Display

While the direct-to-watch feature enhances convenience, it can be used as an additional glucose display device. That way if your smartphone battery is low or you are experiencing connectivity issues, you will still be able to view your glucose readings.

What watches are compatible with Dexcom G7 Direct-to-Watch?

Dexcom G7 system is compatible with select watches for direct-to-watch functionality. Currently, the primary compatible smartwatches are a range of Apple Watch models, running on watchOS 10 or later. Compatibility with Android Wear OS smartwatches is still being tested, although specific models have not been announced yet. Dexcom continuously evaluates and updates its list of compatible devices on their website

What Apple Watches are compatible with Dexcom G7 Direct-to-Watch

In order to use Direct-to-Watch feature, you must have one of the following Apple Watch models, running on watchOS10 or later:

  • Apple Watch Series 6
  • Apple Watch Series 7
  • Apple Watch Series 8
  • Apple Watch Series 9
  • Apple Watch SE (2nd Generation)
  • Apple Watch Ultra
  • Apple Watch Ultra 2

How do I get my Dexcom G7 readings directly on my Apple Watch?

The setup for getting your Dexcom G7 readings directly to your Apple Watch is easier than you might imagine. First, you need to go to your phone app and get to the connections tab. From there, you are going to go to the direct-to-watch setting. In the My Watch tab, go to the Available Apps list, find Watch, and Install. 

Direct-to-Watch Frequently Asked Questions 

Will my Apple Watch share glucose data with third-party apps?

No, direct-to-watch does not have the capability to share real-time glucose data to third-party apps. 

Will I still get readings on my Apple Watch when swimming?

If you are submerged in water, you may not get sensor readings until you are out of the water.

Is Share available from my Watch when in Direct-to-Watch mode?

Share is not available since your smartwatch can’t send information to followers. The primary user can continue to use their Dexcom G7 phone app to share their readings with up to 10 designated followers. Your followers will be able to view glucose data from the Dexcom Follow app on their compatible smart device. 

Is Direct-to-Watch available with Dexcom G6?

Direct-to-Watch is not available for Dexcom G6. 

If I use Direct-to-Watch, can I still use my automated insulin delivery system?

Yes. Dexcom G7 is capable of displaying glucose readings on multiple simultaneously and individually, including your phone, smartwatch, Dexcom receiver or connected insulin pump.
