Yup, I was one of those people who had no idea what the realities of this disease were until I was sitting in the doctor's office being given the lifelong diagnosis.
They sent me off with a few insulin pens and carb ratios and simply told me to use these tools to manage it - but I couldn't help but think that there should be more to living with a chronic disease like this.
It was after graduation that I finally decided to show up for my body. I enrolled in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) and learned as much as I could about caring for my body as whole.
