Managing glucose levels is already a full-time job, so the last thing you need is constant noise from your sensor alarms. The Freestyle Libre 2 Plus sensors are designed to keep you in the loop, alerting you when your glucose is out of range or if there’s a technical issue that needs your attention. Most alarms are enabled by default, but understanding exactly what each one does can give you the power to fine-tune your settings to better match your lifestyle. With the right customizations, you can stay on top of your glucose without sensor interruptions.
What Alarms Does Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Have?
-
Urgent Low Glucose Alarm: Alerts you when your sensor glucose is at or below 55 mg/dL. It won’t display your actual glucose reading so you’ll need to scan your sensor to check. If your glucose stays in this range, this alarm will repeat every 30 minutes until you’re back above 55 mg/dL.
-
Low Glucose Alarm: Notifies you when glucose is below your target glucose range, but does not include your glucose reading so you will need to scan your sensor to check your glucose. You will only receive one alarm per low glucose episode.
-
High Glucose Alarm: Goes off when glucose is above your target glucose range, but does not include your glucose reading so you will need to scan your sensor to check your glucose. You’ll receive only one alert per high glucose episode.
-
Signal Loss Alarm: Notifies you when your sensor has not communicated with your Reader or App for 20 minutes.
-
Replace Sensor (iPhone only): Notifies you when your sensor has ended. You will not receive glucose alarms after this time unless you start a new sensor.
-
Sensor Ended: Notifies you when your sensor has ended. You will not receive glucose alarms after this time unless you start a new sensor. This alert cannot be turned off or adjusted.
-
App Stopped (iPhone only): iPhone app users will be alerted when the Freestyle Libre 2 Plus app has been closed. The App must be running in the background to receive alarms.
*Note: For all App Alarms (excluding Sensor Ended and App stopped Alarm): if you ignore an alarm, you will receive it again in 5 minutes if the condition still exists.

How to Silence Freestyle Libre 2 Plus Alarms
If you’re using the Freestyle Libre 2 Plus with a reader, you can silence alarms by turning off the sound and vibration settings. However, this won’t disable Urgent Low Glucose, Replace Sensor, Sensor Ended or App Stopped Alarms.
For Freestyle Libre 2 Plus App users, you have a bit more control over silencing alarms. You can activate Silent Mode (if available) to silence all glucose and signal loss alarms for a set period of time. Alternatively, you can turn off the Override Do Not Disturb setting for alarms like High Glucose, Low Glucose, and Signal Loss. This allows these alarms to follow your phone’s volume settings so they’ll stay silent if you have Do Not Disturb enabled.
