The FreeStyle Libre 3 is a popular continuous glucose monitoring system that provides real-time glucose readings without the need for fingersticks. Libre 3 is designed to work with various smartphones, making it convenient for people with diabetes to monitor their glucose levels on the go. In this article, we will explore the different types of smartphones and mobile devices that are compatible with the FreeStyle Libre 3 system. Whether you are a seasoned FreeStyle Libre 3 user or considering the system for the first time, this article will provide valuable information to help you determine which devices and operating systems are supported.

What app is needed for FreeStyle Libre 3?

The official app for the FreeStyle Libre 3 system is the FreeStyle Libre 3 app, which enables users to monitor their glucose levels and receive alarms directly on their smartphone device, eliminating the need for carrying around their reader. The Freestyle Libre 3 app is available for free download from Google Play or the App Store. The FreeStyle Libre 3 sensors and app are designed to seamlessly work together, providing users with an effortless way to monitor their glucose levels using their smartphone. The app is user-friendly and offers several features that can enhance diabetes management including:

Constant glucose readings:

Glucose readings are automatically sent to the user's smartphone device every single minute.

Trend analysis:

From the app's home screen, users can view their up-to-the minute glucose reading, glucose trend arrow, and continuous 12-hour glucose graph to make intentional decisions about their diabetes management.

Glucose history:

The app stores glucose data for up to 90 days, allowing users to identify patterns and potential causes for fluctuations in blood glucose levels.

Personalized Reminders:

Users can set personalized reminders in the app to prompt them to check their glucose levels at specific intervals throughout the day to support their diabetes management goals.

Data sharing:

Users can connect with friends and family members using the LibreLinkUp app so they can see their current glucose reading, 12 hour historial glucose graph, and set their own alarm notifications.

Additional features:

The app includes users to customize glucose alarms to alert users when their glucose levels are too high or too low and the ability to add notes about glucose levels.

What apps work with Freestyle Libre 3?

It is important to note that although certain third-party apps may offer additional features and functionalities, it is crucial to understand that Abbott has not officially tested or authorized their use. As a result, there may be variations in accuracy or reliability in glucose readings compared to the Freestyle Libre 3 app.

Alongside the official app, there are several third-party applications that are compatible with the Freestyle Libre 3 system that include Spike, xDrip+, and Tomato. These apps have been developed independently and have compelling features for users that can make managing their diabetes easier.
