What are the new Omnipod 5 features?

In comparison to the Omnipod DASH, Omnipod 5 is the first tubeless automated insulin delivery system. It has a CGM integration to protect against high and low blood sugar levels by utilizing an algorithm called SmartAdjust Technology to automatically increase, decrease or pause insulin delivery every 5 minutes based on personalized target glucose and 60-minute predicted glucose level.

How does Omnipod 5 work?

Omnipod 5 is a tubeless automated insulin delivery system. Every 5 minutes the system will automatically increase, decrease or pause insulin delivery based on readings from a compatible CGM system. It includes the tubeless Omnipod 5 pod, the Omnipod 5 App, and a compatible CGM system. The Omnipod 5 Pod can be worn almost anywhere insulin is injected with each Pod lasting up to 3 days.

What are the features of Omnipod 5?

  • Target Glucose: Target glucose can be set to 110, 120, 130, 140 or 150 mg/dL.
  • Approved Age: Ages 2 years and older
  • Activity Settings: Changes target glucose to 150 mg/dL and reduces automated insulin delivery for duration specified, 1-24 hours.
  • Automated Correction Boluses: No automated correction boluses.
  • Automated Basal Adjustments: Adaptive basal is calculated from total daily dose, which is updated with every Pod change. Adaptive Basal is adjusted every 5 minutes based on predicted glucose levels 60 minutes into the future, aiming for programmed target glucose level.
  • Compatible CGM: Dexcom G6 with future compatibility for Dexcom G7 and Freestyle Libre 2 Plus
  • Waterproof: Yes
  • Tubing: Tubeless

  • More time in range: A study from 2021, showed improved time in range by 3.7 hours per day in children and 2.2 hours per day in adolescents and adults without increasing hypoglycemia episodes.
  • Lower A1C: The same study showed a reduction in A1C of 0.71% in children and 0.38% in adolescents and adults.
  • User Adapted: Omnipod 5 adapts with every Pod change to meet your unique insulin needs and adjusts insulin using a customized Target Glucose, not a range.
