A CGM and tubeless insulin pump all-in-one device? Yes, please!

As someone living with diabetes, spending less coordinating site changes sounds heavenly. Pharmasens’ Niia Signature Patch Pump will be the first of three innovative patch pump options that will be available in the near future.

What is the Niia Signature Patch Pump?

The Niia Signature Patch Pump is an all-in-one CGM and tubeless basal-bolus insulin pump. No more having to wear both a separate CGM and insulin pump!

What are the features of the Niia Signature Patch Pump?

You can tell that the Niia Signature Patch Pump was thoughtfully designed to simplify life for people with diabetes. Its standout features include:

  • Patch Pump: Say goodbye to tubing! This patch pump eliminates the need for tubing, making it more convenient and less intrusive.
  • 3 mL Reservoir: Even with its compact size, it holds up to 300 units of insulin. Although it is currently wearable for up to 3 days, PharmaSens plans to extend the wear-time in the future.
  • Bolus on Pump: Enjoy the flexibility of bolusing by pressing a button directly on the pump without having to keep tabs of a separate device.
  • Semi-reusable Components: A reusable Pump Cover is designed to be the brain of the system and reusable for up to 2 years, which helps to reduce costs and environmental waste.
  • Needle Technology: A 90-degree steel needle ensures reliable insulin delivery by preventing leaking sites and kinked cannulas.

What are the parts of the Niia Signature Patch Pump?

Reusable Unit

The part of the Niia Signature Patch Pump that holds the pump’s electronics is called the patch pump cover. It can be reused for up to 2 years before needing to be replaced.

Disposable Unit

The disposable unit of the Niia Signature Patch Pump includes several items. First, there is the single-use patch itself, which is used once then replaced. Additionally, each time you refill the patch with insulin, you’ll use a filling aid and a vial holder to help you refill easily and accurately. These items are meant to be used once and then disposed of after each use.

Configuration Software

You can go online to access the configuration software for the Niia Signature Patch Pump. This software lets you set up your basal (background insulin) and bolus (mealtime insulin) profiles. It is a convenient way to customize how your pump delivers insulin throughout the day and when you eat without needing to carry around a separate device.

How will the Niia Signature Patch Pump simplify diabetes management?

The Niia Signature Patch Pump simplifies diabetes management by combining a CGM and insulin pump into one device. This means you’ll have less stuff to carry around, spend less time on site changes, and only one set of supplies to keep track of– no more juggling multiple supply orders from different suppliers!

When will the Niia Signature Patch Pump be available?

I know you’re excited, but there isn’t a release date for the Niia Signature Patch Pump yet. PharmaSens has already submitted an application for FDA approval in December 2023– hopefully the wait won’t be much longer!

How much will the Niia Signature Patch Pump cost?

The cost of the Niia Signature Patch Pump hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Summary

The Niia Signature Patch Pump combines a CGm and an insulin pump into one sleek device. It features a reusable component, the patch cover, which houses the pump’s electronics and can be used for up to 2 years. The disposable portion includes the single-use patch, along with tools like a filling aid and vial holder for each insulin refill. While the release date and cost haven’t been announced, PharmaSens has applied for FDA approval, which promises a new insulin pump will be available in the near future!
